Terence Davies - Davies Urges Uk Filmmakers To Ignore Us Film Nonsense

British director TERENCE DAVIES has launched a scathing attack on the U.S. movie industry - branding it "sub-American nonsense".

The veteran filmmaker urges British directors not to copy the "template" favoured by Hollywood films, insisting they should retain their individuality by basing their projects in and around the U.K. instead.

He says, "If we are going to have a national cinema, we have got to make stories which arise from our islands.

"The American template is very often lousy. Why do we want to imitate it?"

Davies launched his gritty new documentary Of Time And The City to critical acclaim at the Cannes International Film Festival in France last week (Beg14May08).
